The World Bank (WB) is currently processing a second-round additional financing to support another 600,000 new solar home systems in the country on a fast track basis, said a WB release Sunday. More than 870,000 homes and shops in remote rural areas have installed solar home systems with support from the World Bank and other development partners. The solar home system component of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Development (RERED) Project is implemented by the Infrastructure Development Company Ltd (IDCOL) through its partner organisations, the release added. The World Bank had provided additional financing of $130 million at the end of 2009 to support IDCOL efforts in reaching more households in rural areas with solar home systems. Since December, 2009, more than 300,000 solar home systems have been installed under the additional financing.
