We have potential to do well in ODIs against NZ: Siddons
Tuesday, 5 October 2010
National cricket team head coach Jimmy Siddons Monday said Bangladesh has the potential of doing well against New Zealand as the boys had enough time to prepare ahead of the five-match ODI series that begins today (Tuesday) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS).
Addressing a press conference at the SBNS, Siddons expressed his satisfaction over the team's preparation with the two new coaches, reports UNB.
He said: "It's a very important series (for Bangladesh) as the team's preparation for the ICC World Cup."
Siddons said absence of Tamim and Ashraful is a great loss for the team, but it would not hinder the team's performance as the remaining members are ready to give their best.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who will be captaining the Bangladesh team for the first time on home soil, was also hopeful of doing well in the series
He said: "The opening match is important. If we are able to make a good start in the first match, we have a chance of doing well in the remaining matches of the series."
Skipper Mashrafe said Bangladesh has the bright possibility of doing well in the series as the team had one and half months' preparation and got two new coaches.
Shahriar Nafees, who made a comeback to the side after a long time, may open the innings in absence of regular opener Tamim Iqbal, indicated the team's coach and captain.
Besides, pacer Nazmul Hossain has been included in the Bangladesh squad in the series. Nazmul's inclusion came following minor injuries to pacer Rubel Hossain and Shafiul Islam.
Bangladesh Squad: Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (captain), Shakib Al Hasan (vice captain), Shahriar Nafees, Imrul Kayes, Zunaed Siddique, Roqibul Hassan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Jahirul Islam, Naeem Islam, Abdur Razzak, Shafiul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Md. Sohrawordi and Nazmul Hossain.
Standby: Mohammad Ashraful, Nazim Uddin, Dollar Mahmud, Shuvagoto Hom.
