Darren Sammy’s late blitz and Chris Gayle’s half-century helped the West Indies trump Australia by six wickets in their World T20 Group 2 Match at Sher-e Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on Friday. Chasing a daunting target of 179 to win, the Caribbean side achieved it with two balls to spare and with six wickets in hand. Sammy remained unbeaten on 34, as the 19 runs that he smashed off Mitchell Starc in the penultimate over of the game helped the West Indies snatch a win from Australia’s hands. The West Indies captain hit consecutive sixes off Faulkner in the last over to seal an exciting game for his side. Chris Gayle provided the West Indies some momentum early on as he smashed as many as four boundaries off Mitchell Starc in the second over. Earlier in the first innings, Glenn Maxwell and Brad Hodge’s significant contributions helped Australia set a 179-run target against the West Indies. Electing to bat first, Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals, but Maxwell and Hodge’s knocks ensured that they reach 178 for eight from 20 overs, according to a news agency.
