Western Marine joins hands with Dutch co to build quality ships

CHITTAGONG, Feb 1: Western Marine Shipyard, a leading ship building company in the country, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Winteb VOF of the Netherlands to build quality ships in Bangladesh.
Under the MoU, Western Marine will import air vent heads from the Dutch company, sources said.
Md Shakhawat Hussain, managing director of Western Marine, and his Winteb VOF counterpart Alvert Vander Velde signed the MoU on behalf of the respective companies Monday.
The deal was signed during the visit of a 10-member Dutch delegation led by Harry T Pronk, export manager of Dagin Marine Technology at the shipyard at Kolagaon of Patiya upazila of the district.
Representatives of various Dutch companies and acting Dutch ambassador to Bangladesh Ms Doris Voorbraak were in the visiting team.
During the visit, Mr Pronk said as a world class ship builder, Western Marine would help Bangladesh earn a large amount of foreign exchange through export of medium and small sized ships abroad.
Ms Voorbraak said her country would take necessary steps to improve ship building industry in Bangladesh.
