Westin Dhaka to observe Earth Hour tomorrow

Friday, 25 March 2011

The Westin Dhaka will observe Earth Hour by turning off its non-essential lights and taking other energy-saving measures for one hour tomorrow (March 26). "The programme underscores the commitment of Starwood Hotels and Resorts to ensure environmental sustainability. The Westin Dhaka is honoured to be a part of such an initiative," said a release Thursday. "Observing Earth Hour is not just a one-day event, rather it is a social awareness campaign to enlighten everyone to take responsibility amid the present climate change scenario," said Azeem Shah, general manager of The Westin. For the first time, Starwood Preferred Guest, an award-winning programme of Starwood, invites guests to take part in Earth Hour. The company will award 100 Starpoints to every member, who registers at www.spg.comearthhour. The Westin Dhaka will take several measures to observe the programme, such as dimming or turning off non-essential interior and exterior lighting, using candlelight in appropriate public areas, and informing guests about the hotel's observation of Earth Hour through letter from the GM, added the release. It also said all the Starwood hotels around the world are coordinating supplementary awareness events, like walk-a-thons in their local communities, public candlelight unplugged concerts, and receptions for guests featuring signature green cocktails. - FE Report
