WETEX begins in city

The 6th Women Entrepreneur Trade Expo (WETEX) 2009 commenced on Monday in the capital in participation of women entrepreneurs from six countries showcasing exclusive eid-fashion wares under the same roof.
The expo accommodated a total of 125 stalls where participating women entrepreneurs from Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Malaysia and China displaying their exclusive eid-collections including cloths, footwear, cosmetics, jewelry and herbal products.
Deputy leader of the Jatio Sangsad Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury inaugurated the expo as chief guest while Commercial Councilor of Pakistan High Commission to Dhaka Zulfiqar Younas accompanied her.
Talking to the media after visiting different stalls of the expo, Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury expressed satisfaction over the growing women entrepreneurship in the country and the reason.
He also expressed optimism that such exhibition would be a source of encouragement for them.
"The expo aims to encourage and explore business potential for women entrepreneurs," Zulfiqar Younas said in press briefing.
The 5th expo last year made a business of Tk 40 million the Pakistani commercial councilor said adding that top three participants will be awarded at the end of the exhibition.
As per the expo tradition, he said, women chamber delegation from Pakistan and India would visit the exhibition while a Bangladesh women entrepreneur delegation will also be formed among Bangladeshi participants in the expo.
Government of Pakistan will bear every expenses of the Bangladeshi delegation in their visit and participation in the mega lifestyle exhibition in Lahore scheduled on March 2010, he added.
Targeting eid-shopping enthusiasm, the High Commission of Pakistan, Dhaka organised the colorful expo at Bangabandhu International-Convention Centre (BICC), sponsored by Bank Alflah Limited. The exhibition will remain open for public from 11 am to 10 pm till August 29, 2009.
