FE REPORT
The High Court on Sunday ordered the agencies concerned of the government to inform it within seven days what steps have been taken against the persons responsible for the mismanagement that led to failure of a large number workers to reach Malaysia before the deadline set by Kuala Lumpur.
The High Court bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice S M Masud Hossain Dolon passed the order verbally after hearing a writ petition filed in this regard.
Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy told the FE that the government had formed a body to inquire into the mismanagement.
"The High Court verbally asked me to inform it about the steps the body has taken," he said.
Two Supreme Court lawyers- Tanvir Ahmed and Biplab Kumar Poddar- on June 3 this year filed the writ petition as a public interest litigation.
Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary, Foreign Affairs Secretary, Inspector General of Police and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) have been made respondents to the petition.
The petitioners earlier sent a legal notice on June 2 requesting the respondents to take immediate necessary steps to rectify the situation.
As the respondents paid no heed to the notice, the lawyers filed the writ petition.
In the petition, the lawyers annexed some published reports regarding the workers bound for Malaysia.
