Wheat procurement drive begins in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, May 14 (BSS): Wheat procurement drive has begun in Sundarganj upazila in the district on Wednesday amid much enthusiasm to the farmers.
Manjurul Islam Liton, MP, formally inaugurated the wheat procurement drive in the upazila as the chief guest and acting upazila parishad chairman Rezia Begum and UNO Abdul Hai Milton were present as the special guests.
Office sources said the government has set a target to procure a total of 387 tonnes of wheat from the upazila through two purchasing centres here during the current season.
The growers could sell wheat in the purchasing centres taking the certification from the local sub assistant agriculture officer and union parishad chairman, said Halimur Rahman, officer in charge of local supply depot located at upazila headquarters.
Price of per kg of wheat has been fixed at taka 28, he said adding that much enthusiasm has been seen among the farmers here on the inaugural day of the wheat procurement drive.
