Wheat yield bright in Rangpur

RANGPUR Apr 26 (UNB) : A bumper production of wheat is expected in eight districts of Rangpur region in the current season due to favourable climatic condition.
Most of the plants are already matured and the farmers have started harvesting wheat in different areas of these districts.
The farmers in the region are expecting bumper wheat production as the climatic condition was favourable this year besides inputs like quality seeds, fertilisers and pesticides were available during the season said an official of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE).
A total of 1,29,305 hectares of land have been brought under wheat cultivation in eight districts of the region this season with an output target of 3,63,000 metric tonnes.
DAE sources said, of the total, 4,541 hectares were cultivated in Rangpur, 13,478 hectares in Kurigram, 6,096 hectares in Nilphamari, 1,310 hectares in Lalmonirhat, 2,326 hectares in Gaibandha, 26,000 hectares in Dinajpur, 59,280 hectares in Thakurgaon and 16,274 hectares in Panchagarch.
Market sources said per maund of wheat is being sold between TK 900 to 1000.
Mazharul Alam a grower of village Kolkond under Gangachara Upazila in Rangpur cultivated wheat on his two bighas land by spending Tk 7000 and got 20 maunds of wheat.
