Wheat yield brings smile on Magura growers\\\' faces

MAGURA, Mar 23: A bumper production and high price of wheat have brought smiles on the faces of Magura farmers.
Newly-harvested wheat has started to come to the market. Existing price of wheat in the local market has raised hope among the farmers as it is being sold at Tk 830 to Tk 850 per maund.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Magura said, a total of 9400 hectares of land was brought under wheat cultivation in the district this year. A bumper production has been achieved in the district this year which is 36,700 metric tonnes.
When contacted, Nur Ali, a farmer of village Kullia under Magura Sadar Upazila said, 'I have cultivated wheat in 4 acres of land. I have harvested 150 maund of wheat. I hope to earn Tk 1,20,000 while my production cost was Tk 60 thousand'.
