Where lies the problem?

Tuesday, 21 August 2007

EVERYDAY, at least one or two stories are found in the newspapers regarding taking some measures to stabilise the prices of essential commodities. These measures include meetings between the government and stakeholders concerned, withdrawal of import duties form some essential items open market sale of rice, lentil, onion etc. involvement of the BDR in the marketing of essentials. Besides, the government does often urge the people involved in trading not to hike prices of essentials.
Practically, all these efforts have failed to bring about any comfort to the common people already hit hard by soaring prices.
Kitchen markets, to be precise, have become one of the most dreaded spots for the poor as well as the middle class people.
The people are finding it difficult to figure out the reasons for the price situation behaving so erratically when the government is, reportedly, trying hard to rein in soaring prices.
