Where to hide this shame?

Tuesday, 25 December 2007

SO what was feared finally came about. National treasures in the form of the valuable artefacts that were being shipped to France have been pilfered. Statues contained one box went missing and the empty box was later recovered.
Those protestors who were hassled by the cops earlier when they were agitating against taking those objects to France had a point: Don't move the objects from their rightful places.
The airport godown where the objects went missing is arguably one of the most compromised places in the country. While it may not be too difficult to blame somebody-after all, somebody was in charge and on duty when this theft took place-the real culprits may never be traced. However if they are caught this writer would be most happy.
Now what can be done in this situation? Shall the security be reinforced? Should the rest of the artefacts be shifted elsewhere until the airport is deemed secure? Should they be shipped to France?
Finally, can the French be really blamed if they said tongue-in-cheek that on the face of it, it would seem that those objects were less safe in Bangladesh than in France?
