Whirlwind Windies trample toothless Tigers!

Wednesday, 9 March 2011

One can lose a cricket match, and that is acceptable. However, the totally miserable performance of our team against the Windies; was simply beyond imagination! One can say that they have killed their fans by their sheer careless batting which was worse than any that we have seen for quite sometime. Possibly even any Bangladesh first division cricket side would have done no worse against the Windies. We are 'minnows' despite our 'test' status, and in that game, could not even mew like 'frightened cats' on a 'hot tin roof'. It seems that we can loose any game against any team, at any time anywhere. Possibly we should compete with the 'minnows' only. All other teams are 'head and shoulders' above. Will the public buy tickets to go to watch future games of the "toothless Tigers"? On hindsight, the captain's previous match decision to field first was far better than batting first, given the sorry spectacle against the Windies in which we observed the scramble among the batsmen to return to the dressing room one after another. I believe, if there was a scope to enforce follow-on, in one day games, then the Windies could have won by an innings! Windies could have played full fifty overs, and then dismiss Bangladesh again in the balance (50-18.5) 31.1 overs left without shedding any sweat. S A Mansoor Dhaka E-mail : sam@dhakacom.com
