Why is the PM dragging her feet?
Sunday, 5 December 2010
Has Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina lost touch with the common people? Surrounded by so much security it must be hard for her to get among the real people and learn of their concerns and grievances. The late Princess Diana had made it an art.
I have been following closely the Musa Ibrahim postage stamp proposal originally presented by Sir Frank Peters Much has been written since, but one writer in particular, Hamza Gazi, asks why the government is dragging its feet in honoring this brave young son of the soil who brought such great honour to Bangladesh?
Could it be some silly political prejudice, that Musa has known affiliations with the opposition BNP party? Should that make an iota of difference in a democratic society?
The stamp concept is excellent and makes sound business sense and unique promotional reasoning. I know because I am the fatherof three children who are avid stamp collectors.
This topic has now become such a hot potato and so controversial on TV and radio talk shows and in the press, that it is most likely to become a political issue from which the PM and this government will gain or lose, at the next elections. For the will of the people is powerful. Both the PM and the government will be making a terrible mistake if they refuse to acknowledge what the people want with regard to Musa Ibrahim.
As a matter of curiosity, madam prime minister, why are going against thewill of the people and dragging your feet on this one?
