Widespread corruption and harassment in NBR

A few days ago, I went to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Segun Bagicha to get a routine tax certificate but I was totally dumbfounded and helpless to see that everyone, from peon to officer, was asking shamelessly for speed money as if it were their birthright.
 I was literally pushing my application from one table to another and understood why common people are afraid of coming to tax offices to pay their taxes. Harassment is the game here. I had to pay Tk 1,000 to a typist for a small typing work which was his official job to do.
Only if strict vigilance is taken, such unabated practices of corruption can be checked but, unfortunately, no effective steps are taken. A special cell can be opened so that disgruntled citizens can lodge their complaints. Things must no go on as they are now. The country loses huge amount of revenue due to corruption every year and the hard work of the common people is being eaten away. Corruption is the killer of democracy and development. We have no other choice but to go all out to rid the society of this evil if we want to seek deliverance.
