Sunday, 20 July 2014

Slain city panel mayor Nazrul Islam’s wife and younger brother Sunday submitted nomination papers for contesting the by-election to the city’s ward-2 for the post of councilor that fell vacant following his death, according to a news agency.
Two others also submitted nomination papers to the Narayanganj district election officer as the deadline for the submission of nomination papers expired Sunday.
The four aspirants are Nazrul’s wife Selina Islam, brother Abdus Salam, Iqbal Hossain and Masud Rana.
The post of ward councilor fell vacant following the murder of ward councilor Nazrul Islam, who was abducted and subsequently killed during the Narayanganj sensational seven murders on April 27 last.
Talking to reporters after submitting the nomination papers, Selina Islam said she is going to contest the election to finish the unfinished task of her husband.
Asked about her brother-in-law Abdus Salam’s candidature, Selina said, “We (she and Salam) have submitted the nominations so that the winner comes out from our family.”
