Wild speculation, dark rumours and afterwards
Tuesday, 24 February 2009
The recent advertisement 'stunt' announcing that television star and model Joya Ahsan had disappeared and her phone was turned off was half-witted, insensitive, trite, and in extreme bad taste. What about thousands of people who had not understood that it was an advertisement? And what if among her hundreds of thousands of fans had been a few distressed souls who might have contemplated suicide?
There is little doubt that in our society there are some people have a very high impression of themselves with very little to back it up. Sometimes they have ideas they think are the greatest in the world and they absolutely must unleash them on us unsuspecting public come what may. Right after the "news" broke, the country was in the grip of wild speculations and dark rumours regarding what might have happened to the popular Joya. People hoped for the best and prepared for the worst. Thankfully Joya was safe and this turned out to be just an advertisement gimmick.
To the makers of such, 'sensations' we have just this to say: why don't you appear in your birthday suits in a traffic island with the 'advertisement' painted all over your backsides? That way it will attract even more attention.
