Will the Professor kindly let us know the truth?

Friday, 25 December 2009

As far as our politicians go, Prof Muzaffar Ahmed of National Awami Party (NAP) is a revered personality. He has also the courage of his convictions and is always ready to air his views even if they may upset some people. The other day it was reported in the papers that during the fifth national council of the party he spoke on the occasion giving his listeners his opinion on the current national and international situation. Among other things he said the current prime minister of Bangladesh is between a rock and a hard place after the BDR tragedy and that she would not be able to successfully hold the trial of the perpetrators of that tragedy. He said he had come to know why those officers were killed hinting that it was an event in a power-game politicians of this country were involved in. Really, he knows the reason? He even says: 'everyone' knows it. I can assure the respected leader that I don't. And also, no one that I know, know anything about the matter with such certainty. I would request the veteran leader to please come out with the truth because other than conspiracy theories (at least what those are have been dubbed by detractors) few of us know anything without a shadow of doubt.
There are many things that do not make sense specially why all of a sudden BDR jawans would go on a murderous spree and murder their officers and defile their family members. The explanations given by government highups right after the affair as well as those masked BDR men will not convince 12-year olds (unless they are halfwits). Those highly trained personnel did not take into cognizance even once that they may have to pay with their lives for this grisly crime? Did they think parleying with the PM of the country would save them? So there has to be another reason for the massacre of officers. If Prof Muzaffar Ahmed knows the 'real' reason behind it, please let him come forward and reveal it. Otherwise he will sound like everyone else in his trade, hot air and little substance.
