Win in Asian Cup football
Wednesday, 17 September 2014
The tension-filled wait for a win in Asian Games Football is over for the Bangladesh national football under-23 team, as it has finally got the sweet taste of a victory against Afghanistan.
Although Afghanistan is a war-torn country, it is ahead of Bangladesh in FIFA football ranking, so this victory leaves a sweet taste in our mouth. The Bangladeshi people are passionate about watching and enjoying football, but due to the consistently poor standard of football, people have lost interests in it. Although Afghanistan dominated the match, it was Bangladesh which had the last laugh. I am sure this win will work as a tonic for the Bangladeshi youths' football team. Uzbekistan and Hong Kong will play against Bangladesh, and the sport-loving people expect Bangladesh to play their best game against both these teams.
Football was our most popular game in the 80s, and the 90s. This once popular sport is now suffering from fading attention with cricket enjoying all the limelight. I hope the glorious days of Bangladeshi football will soon come back.
