Winter vegetable farming boom in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Nov 25 : The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has fixed the target of producing winter vegetables in the district for the winter season.
According to DAE sources, a total of 20,470 hectares of land have been brought under potato cultivation, 636 hectares for mustard, 2,455 hectares chilli, 1,416 hectares onion, 858 hectares garlic, 205 hectares coriander, 696 hectares sweet potato, and 37 hectares for pea.
Cultivation of winter vegetables is going on in full swing in the district.
Some commercial banks and NGOs have started distributing agriculture loan among the farmers and sharecroppers to make the drive a success, the sources added.
Meantime, some winter vegetables have already appeared in local markets and the farmers are getting good price of their produce.
