Withdraw hartal: FBCCI to Jamaat
Tuesday, 4 February 2014
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Tuesday called upon Bangladesh Jamat-e-Islami to call off their hartal on February 6 (Thursday). “The country’s economy is now under stress due to political violence before the 10th national election and also after it. And the fresh general strike will lead the economy to further crisis,” said the FBCCI in a press statement. The general strike against the verdict of a lower court on the 10-truck arms haul case is contemptuous, and also it is illogical when there is a scope to appeal to the High Court against the verdict, it added. The strike is an attempt to destablise the country, the FBCCI observed. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called the nationwide daylong hartal protesting the capital punishment against its ameer Moulana Matiur Rahman Nizami in the Chittagong 10-truck arms smuggling case, according to a news agency.
