Withdraw hartal, keep economy unhurt: FBCCI
Saturday, 30 August 2014
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) urged Saturday the parties concerned to withdraw hartal called for Sunday.
“Any negative activities, including hartal, will have a negative impact on the country’s economy and image; and discourage foreign investment,” said the apex trade body in a statement, according to a news agency.
The trade body, however, urged the government to arrest the killers of Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqui without any delay.
Earlier in the day, Islami Chhatra Sena, the student associate body of Islamic Front Bangladesh, called an eight-hour countrywide hartal for Sunday demanding the arrest and punishment of the killers of Front leader Faruqui.
President of Islami Chhatra Sena Nurul Haq Chisti announced the hartal progamme at a press conference at the party office in the afternoon.
Unidentified miscreants slaughtered ‘Channel i’ programme presenter Maulana Nurul Islam Faruqui at his residence in the city’s East Razabazar area Wednesday night.
