The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) urged Wednesday the political party concerned to withdraw its 72-hour hartal saying such programme will only invite disasters for the country’s growing economy.
“Destructive programme like hartal will push the country’s economy towards uncertainty. Creating anarchy and damaging public property in the name of hartal is in no way acceptable,” said the apex trade body in a statement.
The FBCCI said the country’s business community is deeply concerned about the call of hartal. “Meanwhile, the business community thinks that such programme to destabilise the country centering sub-judice matter is unacceptable. We request to call off the hartal.”
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called a 72-hour countrywide hartal in two phases from Thursday protesting its ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami Nizami’s death sentence for his war crimes, according to a news agency.
