The government-sponsored high-powered committee Wednesday recommended the concerned authorities to withdraw more 437 cases including six cases filed by the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) considering those as politically motivated, reports BSS.
Chaired by State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Kamrul Islam, the 18th meeting of the committee was held at the conference room of the Home Ministry.
The meeting was attended, among others, by State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku, Additional Secretary to the Home Ministry Iqbal Khan Chowdhury, Additional Inspector General of Police Phony Bhusan Chowdhury and representatives from the law, justice and parliamentary affairs ministry and other concerned officials.
After the meeting, committee chief Advocate Kamrul told the reporters that a total of 701 cases were produced before the committee, of which 11 cases were filed by the ACC and rest 690 were filed under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and Bangladesh Penal Code (BPC).
Out of 11 cases relating to the ACC, six cases were recommended to be withdrawn from the concerned courts but the rest five the committee rejected.
Advocate Kamrul said the committee after its long discussion suggested the withdrawal of 431 cases filed under CrPC and BPC after rejecting 92 cases as those were not filed with political motivation and malafide intention. The committee also instructed the authorities concerned to reproduce 167 cases before the next committee meeting.
