Woman abducted from Dhaka rescued in Munshiganj

Police have rescued a middle-aged woman from Munshiganj who was ‘abducted’ two days ago from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur. Several arrests have been made over the ‘abduction’. The kidnappers called up the family and demanded Tk 0.1 million (Tk100,000) for the captive’s release after she went missing on Monday. Police’s Tejgaon Zone Deputy Commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarkar said, the 50-year-old woman, who is a singer, was rescued on Tuesday midnight from Gajaria Upazila of Munshiganj district. “A number of people have been nabbed from Dhaka and Gajaria over the incident. We will be able to find out why she was abducted when we question them.” The police official, however, declined to provide further details on the arrests or who were being suspected. The victim’s brother ‘Arif’ said that his sister went to her friend’s residence a little distance from her home in Adabor area on Monday. Around noon, she got a call on her mobile phone asking her to go to Dhaka Uddyan area. She left the house and a little while later called her friend saying she was being abducted by unknown people in a microbus. The phone was switched off after that, he added. Arif said another sister of him was called up and Tk100,000 was demanded as ransom. The callers threatened to harm the captive if the money was not paid. He filed a general diary with the police and Mohammadpur police OC Jalal Uddin Mir said they started looking for her on Tuesday based on the complaint, according to bdnews24.com.
