A Dhaka court has sent Salma Islam to jail over an attempted murder during last year's July Uprising, reports bdnews24.com.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra issued the order on Friday after Salma was produced before the court.
Her lawyer Abul Hossain Patwary said Salma was beaten on Dhanmondi 32 on Thursday around 11:30am, after which police detained her.
Following the arrest, Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of Ramna Police, said the woman had appeared at the scene on behalf of Awami League and had taken part in various processions. He added that she had caused disorder at the grave of former president Ziaur Rahman and "tries to go viral in different ways".
On Friday, the investigating officer Sub-Inspector Anwar Mia of Dhanmondi Model Police Station produced Salma before the court showing her arrested in the attempted-murder case of Abu Sayed Md Saim, a student of European University. Salma's lawyer sought bail, but the court rejected the application. According to the case files, Saim joined a procession on Satmasjid Road 10:45am on Jul 19 last year, during which he was shot in the back.
