NOAKHALI, Nov 29 (BSS): A woman was beaten to death reportedly by her neighbour over a trivial matter in Jagodananda village under Ward No-5 of Dhansiri union in Kabirhat upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Aleya Begum, 50, wife of Soleman Mia, a resident in Jagodananda village under Ward No-5 of Dhansiri union of the upazila.
According to locals, an argument broke out between the victim Aleya and her neighbour Rezia Begum and her family members over the eating of paddy by ducks on Wednesday morning. As a sequel to it, they both locked into a fight and at one stage, Rezia hit the victim with a stick of wood, leaving her critically injured, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kabirhat Police Station Rafiqul Islam said.
Later, local people rescued her and took her to Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead around 8:30 am, he said.
Md. Salim, the son of the victim, complained and said that Rezia Begum's ducks next to their house eat their paddy. "When my mother spoke about this, they got into a fight with my mother. Later they hit my mother with a stick on her head and seriously injured her. Later, she died on the way to the hospital," he added.
The body was kept at the Noakhali 250-bed General Hospital morgue for autopsy, OC added.
