Woman commits suicide in police custody

CHITTAGONG, April 13: A woman arrested in a child abduction case has committed suicide in police custody at Patenga police station in the city today. The police said Nigar Sultana Mina (25) hanged herself in the toilet of the police station in the morning. OC Abul Kalam told the media that she went to the toilet in the police station in presence of her husband and another relation. As she was not returning the police broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling of the toilet. The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue. A UD case was filed with the Patenga police. The police arrested Nigar Sultana and her husband Samiul Islam (28) from Rupgonj of Narayangonj yesterday for abducting a 14-month child from Akbar Ali Colony in the Chittagong city. Nigar told the media yesterday in front of the police that she had abducted the child to nurse him as her son as her three-month old male baby died months back.
