Woman gets 14 yrs’ jail for stealing newborn in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, Oct 20 (BSS): A court here sentenced on Monday a woman to 14 years in prison for stealing a newborn baby in Sadar upazila in 2021.
The court also fined convict Alpana Khatun Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer two months more in jail, said Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court Md. Masudur Rahman.
Judge of Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-2 Begum Salma Khatun delivered the verdict on Monday afternoon.
The other four accused in the same case have been acquitted as the charges brought against them were not proven. According to the case, Majed Ali admitted his pregnant wife to Sakhawat Memorial Hospital in Sirajganj on the night of February 26, 2021. The child was born the next morning. In the afternoon, an unidentified woman wearing a 'burqa' ran away with the newborn baby in her arms.
