A woman has been tortured and killed by her in-laws for failing to meet their demand for dowry, claims the victim’s family in Madaripur’s Kalkini upazila. Khadija was married to Enayet Fakir of Jhaudi village at Madaripur Sadar upazila six years ago. The victim’s mother, Suratan Bibi, alleged that Khadija’s husband and in-laws harassed and tortured her often demanding dowry since the time she got married. She said that at the time of the wedding they had provided other things including household goods, but, her in-laws would often ask for money. “Two months back they (Khadija’s in-laws) hit my daughter with a hammer and injured her. Their torture led to Khadija’s miscarriage.” Suratan Bibi said they could not provide for Khadija’s treatment due to shortage of money. The body has been sent to Madripur Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said SI Emdad, according to bdnews24.com.
