Woman raped, thrown in gorge

The local people of Bandarban’s Roangchhari have held a man who they are accusing of raping and killing a young woman. According to them, a 23-year-old Marma woman was thrown into a gorge after she was raped several times allegedly by Roshod Tongchonga on Friday evening. The accused, Tongchonga, was captured and then handed over to the police by the locals. Roangcharhi Upazila Chairman Kabamong Marma said the woman, who used to teach at a local school, was doing her rounds of weekly grocery shopping at Roangchhari Bazar. He said she was attacked in the evening near Bengchori Hill while she was returning home from the market. Roangchhari’s OC Abdul Sattar said police found the woman’s body on Saturday afternoon and sent it to a hospital for autopsy, according to a news agency.
