Woman sentenced to 14yrs in kidnapping case

HABIGANJ, Aug 30 (UNB): The court of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal here Wednesday convicted a woman and sentenced her to 14 years imprisonment for trying to kidnap a boy in 2003.
The court also fined Halima Begum (45), hailing from Krishnapur village under Madhabpur Upazila, Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer one year more RI.
According to the prosecution story, Halima kidnapped Shankar Chandra Shill (8), son of Paresh Chandra Shill from Ratanpur village under Sadar Upazila on December 5, 2003 in a bid to dispatch him to India. Local people caught her when she was fleeing with the boy in a rickshaw.
Later, a case was filed with the police.
After examining the records and witnesses, Judge M Abu Hanif handed down the verdict.
