Woman slaughtered in Sonargaon Upazila

Unidentified killers slaughtered a woman and dumped the body in an orchard in Sonargaon Upazila in Narayanganj district at some time between Thursday and early Friday. The deceased was identified as Halima Akhter, 18, wife of Sujon Mia of Chhoto Arjundi village. Locals spotted her body in the lichi garden in Chhoto Arjundi village on Friday and informed police. The body was recovered from from the lichi garden and sent to a hospital for autopsy. Police, quoting victim’s family members, said Sujon picked up Halima and got married in 2010 following a love affair. ‘Sujon used to torture Halima after he took a second wife,’ the victim’s relative claimed. Locals said she might have been killed by her husband and his associates, according to a news agency.
