Woman stabbed dead by nephew in Comilla

A woman was stabbed dead allegedly by her nephew over a trifling matter in Shangishar village under Chauddagram upazila in Comilla district on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Rahima Begum, 50, wife of Abul Khayer, a resident of the village. Locals said Abu Taher had an altercation with the family members of his brother Abul Khayer over taking bath in a pond. At one stage, Shahjahan, son of Abu Taher, stabbed Rahima, wife of his paternal uncle Khayer, with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured. He also injured Abul Khayer as he tried to save his wife. Rahima was rescued and was whicked off to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex. As her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Comilla Medical College Hospital. She died on the way. Officer-in-Charge of Chauddagram Police Station Uttam Kumar Chakrabarty confirmed the incident. Police arrested Selina Khatun, the mother of Shahjahan, in connection with the incident, the OC added, according to UNB.
