\\\'Women proving ability in media\\\'
FE Report | Wednesday, 11 March 2015
Former and working women journalists have observed that women are continuing to prove their ability in media amid professional challenges in the patriarchal society as stereotype thoughts about women still exist.
Despite all the odds, women are now working in all sections of media houses, they said at a seminar on 'Women at Work: Challenges and Prospects'.
The British Council, Bangladesh and Women Journalists Network, Bangladesh organised the seminar on Monday on the occasion of the International Women's Day 2015.
Angur Nahar Monty, Diplomatic Correspondent of Daily Bhorer Kagoj, moderated the seminar where Joint Secretary of National Press Club Farida Yasmin, President and CEO of Change Makers Tanbir Siddiqui, Assistant Professor of Mass communication and Journalism of Dhaka University Sabrina Sultana Chowdhury, News Editor of ATN News Probhash Amin and Head of Marketing and Communication, British Council Arshia Aziz spoke as panel speakers.
Louise Cowcher, Director (development contract) of British Council, delivered the welcome speech.
Farida Yasmin said though women struggle against social norms and practices to be in leading position, many leading women have earned taking 'silent support' of men.
Sabrina Sultana shared her experience to introduce 'gender and communication' as a course at MCJ Department of DU and said her students still face the stereotype question for carrying out study in journalism.
