Work on tunnel under Karnaphuli to begin next FY

Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the construction work on the country’s first-ever tunnel under the Karnaphuli River will begin in the next fiscal year. The minister said this while talking to reporters after inaugurating the repaired Kalarpol Bridge in West Patiya. Obaidul also said the work to turn the Dhaka-Chittagong highway into a four-lane will be completed by December. The construction cost of the tunnel will be Tk 65-70 billion, he said adding that China Communication and Construction Company will invest in the project. “They’ have given an offer in this regard. A delegation of the Chinese company will visit the country within a few days,” according to a news agency.
