Workers block Mohammadpur road

Garment workers blocked a road at Dhaka’s Mohammadpur in protest against the repeated postponement of salary payments by the authorities of a factory. Locals said workers of Azim Garments held demonstrations near Mohammadpur Bus Stand around 1:30pm on Thursday, disrupting regular traffic on the Sher-e-Bangla Road. Hours later, police persuaded the agitating workers to clear the road, leading to the resumption of vehicular movement. Mohammadpur Police OC Azizul Haq said, ‘The situation was brought under control after negotiations with the factory owners and workers,’ according to a news agency.
