Workers clash in CEPZ; 10 injured

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 11: At least 10 people were injured in a clash between workers of two factories in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) in the port city on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses said workers of JMS Limited and Marimo Limited were locked in the clash over a trifling incident.
Md Akhtaruzzaman, officer-in-charge of the CEPZ police station, said the clash broke out after a worker of a factory was locked in a brawl with a worker of another factory over its main gate.
Locals said JMS factory workers staged protest to express dissatisfaction with their pay and allowances.
During the demonstration, the agitating workers closed the main gate of CEPZ.
Marimo Limited workers resisted the protesters from closing the gate, leading to the clash that left nearly 10 people injured.
The injured workers were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, law enforcers cooled down the troublesome situation.
In another development, the authorities of the two factories declared three-day general holiday in this connection.
