Workers of Baropukuria coal field on strike for wage hike

DINAJPUR Feb 10: About seven hundred local workers of Baropukuria coal mine went on strike since Saturday night demanding wage hike hampering production. But operation of the coal mine continued with some 300 Chinese workers, authorities said. The workers on strike have been engaged by the Chinese operation and maintenance contractor CMC-XMC Consortium. They went on strike demanding daily minimum wage of Tk 320 for an underground worker, Tk 230 for an on-ground worker, tiffin allowance and bonus. —UNB
