Workers set fire to Gazipur RMG unit

GAZIPUR, Mar 17: Several hundred workers of Zahin Tex, a garments factory of Givency Group, staged demonstrations and set fire to the factory demanding pay hike Thursday morning. First, they staged a demonstration in front of the factory at Hotapara in Sadar Upazila at 9.00 am. On information police rushed in and tried to disperse the agitated workers. Angered by police action, the workers went berserk and broke glasses of doors, windows and furniture at the ground floor of the multi-storied building. At one stage, they set fire to the factory, gutting valuables. Fire fighting units from Gazipur rushed in and doused the flame at around 11am.
