Workers stage demo for tariff cut on bidi

Workers under the banner of Sirajganj District Bidi Sramik Union have staged a demonstration in the district town to press home their demands, including reduction of tariffs on bidi in the next budget, says a press release.
About 1,000 workers demonstrated in front of Sirajganj Pouro Mukta Mancha around 11:00 am on Tuesday.
Other demands include withdrawal of 10 per cent income tax on bidi and enactment of protection law for bidi workers.
After holding the demonstration, labour leaders handed over a memorandum to the prime minister through the deputy commissioner of Sirajganj.
Md Abdur Razzak, president of Sirajganj District Bidi Sramik Union, presided over the rally. President of Sirajganj District Awami League Adv KM Hossen Ali Hassan attended the programme as the chief guest.
