Workers Union barred from holding council

Friday, 28 March 2014

Bangladesh Hotel-Restaurant-Sweetmeat-Bakery Workers Union on Friday alleged that the government is gagging their voice by not giving permission to hold their national council in the city. The allegation came after the Union was not allowed to hold its scheduled central council at the Dhaka District Sports Association (DDSA) auditorium in city’s Motijheel area on Friday. Despite prior booking of the venue and large scale announcement of the council through posters, the Motijheel police at the very last hour before the assembly backtracked from its previous decision and barred the council. Workers Union president Aktaruzzaman and general secretary Anwar Hossain in a statement on Friday said the change in the decision was verbally conveyed by the Motijheel police to the Union leaders on Thursday, according to UNB.
