Workers\\\' unrest at TUBA Group

Tuesday, 5 August 2014

The TUBA Group workers have been demonstrating for their arrears of wages and Eid bonus for the last couple of days. The BGMEA assured, after having a meeting with the government authorities that they would take urgent steps to pay the arrear wages. Latest report says a date has been fixed for payment of two months' arrear wages.
Just think about the helplessness of the workers. They could not celebrate Eid because they did not get wages for the last couple of months. Not to talk of buying new dresses for their children, they could not even provide them food. This prompted them to protest on the street.
The TUBA Group also owns the Tazreen Fashions, where a deadly fire killed 112 people in 2012. It is learnt that the workers were made hostage to create pressure on the government for release of its owner who has been behind the bar for the Tazreen fire incident.  When will ethics and conscience prevail on such owners?
