Working body to decide on joining dialogue with EC

Sunday, 2 September 2007

Detained former prime minister and Awami League (AL) chief Sheikh Hasina Saturday said her party's working committee would decide whether or not to go for dialogue with the Election Commission (EC) on electoral reforms, reports UNB.
Advocate Khandaker Moniruzzaman, tax lawyer for the AL chief, conveyed her views to reporters after his meeting with her at the makeshift jail in the parliament-building complex.
The parley lasted two hours and a half.
Quoting Sheikh Hasina, Moniruzzaman said the working committee would take the decision on dialogue with the EC after discussing the matter with the party's councillors.
He also discussed with Hasina in details of her wealth statement to be submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) tomorrow (Monday).
Moniruzzaman will again meet Hasina today (Sunday) for her final approval of the wealth statement, being submitted under an ongoing drive launched by the interim regime against alleged corruption in high places.
Responding to a question, he said, "Some part of the statement was corrected by Sheikh Hasina. Her wealth is worth about Tk 25 million (2.5 crore)."
The lawyer said they would submit her wealth statement to the ACC Monday after getting her final approval.
