Workshop on column writing begins in city

A two-day workshop on `Artistic Skill to Write Column' began at Bangladesh Institute of Communication Studies and Public Relations (BICSPR) auditorium in the city Friday, reports BSS.
Noted columnist on international affairs and Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury inaugurated the workshop as the chief guest.
The Centre for Media Watch and Development (CMD) and BICSPR jointly organised the workshop.
Zaglul A Chowdhury laid emphasis on three points viz. commands over language, specialization and identification of issues for attaining ability in writing column.
"Column has created a new dimension in modern journalism which makes the newspapers more popular," he said.
He stressed the need for gathering information and knowledge, background and history and analysis about possible future scenario to write column on international affairs.
Terming journalism as a profession of romanticism, he said the profession deserves fame, pleasure and grandeur despite having some negligible negative aspects.
He made a clarion call to the young teachers of different universities to come forward for writing column in a bid to show the society an enlightened way.
Senior journalists and columnists of the country will conduct different sessions of the workshop on column writing and related issues.
With Executive Director of BICSPR Mirza Tarequl Quader in the chair, the inaugural function was attended, among others, by President of CMD Shahabul Haque and General Secretary Khalid Ibn Amin.
