Workshop on non-formal education held in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, May 25 (BSS): A daylong workshop on "Post Literacy Continuing Education for Human Development" ( PLCEHD) project-2 organised by Non-Formal Education Directorate to review its progress in the district was held at the conference room of DC Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner Helaluddin Ahmed attended the workshop as the chief guest while ADC (Education) Bashir Ahmed was in the chair.
Assistant Director of Non-Formal Education, Faridpur Nilufar Chowdhury in her paper disclosed that the main object of this project is to pertain post literacy training to 1.6 million new learners each year of 210 Upazilas of 29 districts by setting up 7,181 centers in the villages across the country. 30 male and 30 female are given training at each centers in two shifts, she said.
Nilufar mentioned that in Faridpur 280 centers have been set up in 8 Upazilas with the object of giving post literacy training to 16,800 learners each year to make them skilled man power through trainings on different trades are supposed to make valuable contributions for socio-economic development in their respective areas.
Deputy Director of PLCE, Dhaka Mizanur Rahman, Abu Sayeed, Assistant Commissioner and Shamima Khandaker, Assistant Commissioner also presented three papers on different aspects of the project. It was disclosed in the workshop that ' Esho Jati Gori'(EJAG) is the lead NGO of the project with partners NGO Bashumati and Eco Society are in charge of implementation of the project.
DC Helaluddin Ahmed in his inaugural speech stressed the need for strong monitoring and close supervision by concerned department for the success of this project. He mentioned that lack of proper supervision formal education in rural areas of the country is at stake and he narrated some painful experiences about the situation now prevailing even in formal education.
Speakers in the workshop stressed the need for frequent visit to the centers by the concerned departmental and other officials and some special incentives to the learners to make them interested in this project.
