Workshop on older people in Dhaka slums held

HelpAge International-Bangladesh, a non-government organisation, arranged a workshop on a study titled 'Older People in Dhaka Slums: A Socio-Economic Assessment' at BRAC Centre Inn in the city Tuesday. Chaired by Social Protection Policy Manager of HelpAge International-Bangladesh Shashwatee Biplob, the workshop was addressed, among others, by Staff Consultant of Asian Development Bank (ADB) and former adviser of Caretaker Government Dheeraj Kumar Nath and Regional Representative of HelpAge South Asia Dave Mather. Consultant of the Population Research and Development Associate (PRDA) Naushad Faiz delivered a power-point presentation on the session highlighting the study. Dheeraj Kumar Nath said though about 33 per cent of people in Dhaka live in slums, the disadvantaged locality, they have limited facilities to lead their lives.
