The World Bank is ready to assist Bulgaria in reforming the Energy Sfector. The Bank will support the government in developing a comprehensive systematic approach to balance the energy system and will advise the Ministry of Environment and Waters and the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (SEWRC) on analysis tools and making long-term decisions. This emerged after a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy Ekaterina Zaharieva, the new Permanent Representative of the World Bank in Bulgaria Tony Thompson and Country Director for Central Europe and the Baltic States Ms. Mamta Murthi. One of the main objectives of this assistance is to improve the administrative capacity of SEWRC, as well as for energy policy to be clear and market-based. During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Zaharieva presented the main objectives of the newly established Energy Board, whose most important task is to provide adequate solutions to remedy the situation in the Energy Sector, where there is a financial deficit of BGN 3 billion and presents a threat to the system. The scope of activities that the World Bank can undertake in support of the sector will be discussed by the Energy Board, according to standartnews.com
