World Bank to assist in EPZs' expansion

The World Bank (WB) will finance in expanding the country's EPZs as a part of forming a special economic zone (SEZ).
A six-member high powered delegation of WB discussed about the proposed assistance regarding expansion of the Comilla EPZ with Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) officials in the city Tuesday.
WB Sr Private Sector Development Specialist of Finance and Private Sector Development Unit (South Asia Region) Eric D Manes proposed for private-public partnership with BEPZA in favour of the EPZs' expansion during the meeting with BEPZA Executive Chairman Ashraf Abdullah Yussuf.
In the meeting, the rapid completion of expansion of Comilla EPZ project as a part of SEZ, a new concept in the country's industrialisation, was also discussed.
The WB delegation also lauded the success of the EPZs, and suggested to envisage more innovative and attractive ideas by BEPZA to play a major role in the country's socio-economic development.
Among others, BEPZA Member (Engineering) Farhad Uddin, Member (Finance) AKM Mahbubur Rahman, Chief Engineer (in-charge) Hafizur Rahman and Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Nazma Binte Alamgir along with and Senior Private Sector Development Specialist of WB - Dhaka Khorshed Alam, Sr Programme Manager of IFC Syed Akhtar Mahmood, Financial Sector Specialist of Finance and Private Sector Development Unit of South Asia Region Kyoo-Won Oh, and Financial Sector Analyst of South Asia Finance and Private Sector Development of WB Sadruddin Muhammad Salman were also present in the meeting.
