A team of top apparel sector entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka arrives in the city this week to formally launch the American and Efird (Bangladesh) Ltd, a joint venture sewing thread manufacturing operation, that will significantly strengthen the country's ready-made garments (RMG) sector.
Directors of Brandix Lanka Limited, Sri Lanka's largest apparel exporter, led by Aslam Omar, will join A and E President Fred Jackson in the formal inauguration of the company on August 23.
It has been operating a manufacturing plant at Islampur in Gazipur for three years as a satellite plant of A and E Lanka's manufacturing facility in Sri Lanka.
American and Efird (Bangladesh) Ltd is a joint venture of Brandix Lanka Ltd, Brandot International Ltd and American and Efird Inc.
The company's growth plan in the country includes providing more employment opportunities, and offering training and development to increase knowledge and improve skill levels in sewing and embroidery thread manufacturing.
Commenting on the formal inauguration of A and E (Bangladesh) Omar said, "Brandix is very excited about the prospects of its operations in Bangladesh. A and E wishes to play a significant role to meet the huge demand for thread in the country's apparel manufacturing industry, whose exports are $9.0 billion per year."
The benefit that the local RMG sector will derive from the presence of A and E (Bangladesh) is obtaining the range of A and E sewing thread and Lurex-branded metallic embroidery and sewing thread, all of which are renowned globally for their performance. The company provides a comprehensive range of colours, available globally in addition to a dye-to-match (DTM) service.
A and E Lanka, one of the cleanest manufacturing operations in Sri Lanka and also an ISO 14001:1996 certified company, received the prestigious 'Excellence in Social Responsibility Award' last year in the 'preservation of the environment' category from the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA), the national trade association of the US that encompasses the apparel, footwear and other sewn product companies as well as their suppliers.
The plant in Bangladesh is designed and operated along the same line, and it can be considered as one of the most environment-friendly manufacturing facilities of the country.
Brandix Lanka has also established a strong presence in India with the setting up of Brandix India Apparel City (BIAC) in Andhra Pradesh. The 1,000-acre apparel city is one of the largest and most advanced manufacturing parks in the world, and envisages a 'fibre-to-store' model for some of the world's top apparel manufacturers.
Brandix pioneered the concept of total solutions in the Lankan apparel industry, and is the country's largest apparel exporter with a consolidated annual turnover of over $320 million.
The group is a preferred solution provider to some of the world's best brands, including Gap, Marks and Spencer, Victoria's Secret, NEXT, and Abercrombie and Fitch.
It specialises in casual bottoms, intimate and active wear, textiles, knitted fabrics, sewing and embroidery thread, accessories and hangers. The group also offers wet processing and finishing and fabric printing.
Brandix is supported by over 25 manufacturing facilities in Sri Lanka and India as well as international sourcing offices.
American and Efird is one of the world's foremost manufacturers of industrial sewing threads and yarns, and it consists of 38 ultra-modern manufacturing facilities and 59 service centres. The company has a presence across 50 countries from the US and Europe to the Far East.
